Book Descriptions
$385
A professional book description and hook, incl. two rounds of development.
A great book description will hook a reader’s attention and introduce them to a protagonist who faces a surprising dilemma that they could become emotionally invested in. Tension and intrigue will leave a reader wanting to find out more, but they need to buy the book to do so. And all this needs to be conveyed in concise prose, targeting the right readership and genre. To craft your professional book description, I take your story synopsis, identify the main its primary hooks, and weave these into a smart and stylish draft. From there, we go through two rounds of editing and development to ensure it's perfect.
To get started I’ll need a detailed, two-page synopsis of the story from start to finish. I won’t include spoilers in the final version, but I still need to understand the full scope of the story (including the climax and resolution) to foreshadow what’s at stake for the reader. If I require more specifics about the story, I’ll let you know.
If you have an existing description, reference examples of book descriptions you love, and/or notes on your readership and genre, please feel free to include these too, but try keep it all to 3 pages, max.
Once I have your synopsis, I’ll send you a rough draft for feedback. From that point, we’ll go through two additional rounds of development and polishing to ensure you love the piece.
My schedule can fill up, so it’s great to contact me as far ahead of time as possible. I aim to complete the first draft of the description within 7 working days of receiving your synopsis. When you submit your feedback for each draft, I’ll return an updated version to you within 48 hours.
“Cate did an incredible job on my book description. I’ve tried other gigs for this, but they are all insignificant compared to her work.”
– Mark Cheverton, NYT bestselling author with 200+ million books sold
“The moment I read the first sentence of the blurb, I loved it. You know how precious writing is to a writer and how they connect with their characters and it’s a special bond. You completely got my vision and delivered it beautifully. I had goosebumps as I read your words.”
– Anna Paulson, Debut Author
